TCS to withdraw pink slip, this time on pregnant lady

21 Jan 2015

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's software leader that has been in the news lately for its mass sacking as it rejigs its mid-level work force, on Tuesday informed the Madras High Court that it had revoked its order terminating a 32-year-old woman employee from the city, even as two more employees from Hyderabad and one from Chennai have moved their respective high courts against their sack orders.

Senior counsel Yashod Vardhan, appearing for TCS, informed the court that the company had revoked the termination order.

Recording the same, Justice M Duraiswamy said, ''Since the TCS has revoked its order ... there is nothing that remains for adjudication in this petition. Hence, the petition stands dismissed as in fructuous.''

The judge, however, clarified that ''the other issues involved in this petition are kept open''.

According to a FITE statement, TCS cited the pregnancy of the petitioner as the reason for the revocation.

Following this, yet another TCS staffer has approached the Madras High Court seeking reversal of a termination notice.

In Hyderabad, the Forum for IT Employees, Hyderabad chapter, claimed that two sacked employees from TCS Hyderabad have sued the company in the Hyderabad High Court, and sought their reinstatement.

According to FITE-Hyderabad, one of the two cases will come up for hearing on Wednesday and the other one will be heard on Thursday.

About a week ago, the same court had restrained TCS from retrenching an analyst, Sasirekha Thangavel Natarajan, who had been issued a termination order by the company.

Natrajan and others have argued that the sackings are arbitrary and in contravention of Indian labour laws.
