TCS inks deal to with Ducati for technology-based services

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has entered into a agreement with Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati Motor Holdings, based in Bologna to deliver a range of technology- based services to the Italian bikemaker.

According to TCS it would do the enterprise resource planning for Ducati and its subsidiaries as the first assignment of the deal. The ERP project aims to improve supply chain management in various areas including forecasts, optimisation of production plans and invetory, and logistics cost control.

S. Ramadorai, CEO and MD, TCS said ''Our partnership with Ducati is another example of the cutting edge technology services that TCS is providing to leaders in different sectors and industries. With TCS as its tech partner, Ducati's ability to respond to customers and react to the evolving business environment will increase and help them to effectively use TCS' talent and expertise to boost their presence globally.''

Gabriele Del Torchio, CEO and president, Ducati, said, ''Ducati is the leader in premium sport motorbikes with an impressive track record in terms of racing successes; we believe that TCS is the right partner to help us setup a strong company platform that will  help us reach the next level in terms of company competitiveness and results in today's global market.''
 
TCS partnered with KPMG Advisory Italy for this assignment. KPMG would bring their local market competencies while TCS will bring its Global Network Delivery Model.

TCS, on 15 January reported third-quarter profit, which fell short of expectations largely because of cutbacks in technolgy investments by clients following the global downturn and adverse currency movements.

The commpany's shares moved up 0.66 per cent, at Rs504  from Rs 490 in early trade on reports of the deal.
