Tata Sons has proposed to develop Jamshedpur as a world class city that will set national benchmarks in sustainability, ease of living and digital technology, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said in an address to citizens at the Postal Park in Bistupur on Thursday.
He said this on the occasion of paying homage on the 183rd birth anniversary of industrialist and visionary founder of Tata Group, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata.
“We are optimistically hopeful that Jamshedpur sets national benchmarks in terms of sustainability, ease of living and all other facilities we can create and also usher in digital technologies. We can push the envelope to make Jamshedpur a world class city by working in coordination with the government and the people of the city,” the Tata Sons’ chairman further observed.
“Despite trying times Tata Steel has had the best ever performance in its history. In terms of output and financial performance, it has been historic. I state in all humility, that these activities and achievements are only a beginning and the best of Tata Steel is yet to come. All of this would not have been possible without everyone joining shoulders,” he observed.
Speaking about the company’s team, Chandrasekaran said, “Tata Steel has a very energetic, vibrant and well-meaning support force that blends in the growth of a strong financial performance and aspiration but more importantly builds the purpose and puts its hand up every time something needs to be done for the society towards which Tata Group is committed.”
While projecting the immediate targets of the company, Chandrasekaran stated, “Tata Steel India will double its production capacity from 20 million tonnes to 40 million tonnes through this decade. We have been making investments in downstream businesses and it is my desire that every Tata Group company has a home in Jamshedpur. We have Tanishq, Big Basket, Tata 1MG and there are many other companies. Tata Power is very active here to bring solar power to Jamshedpur.”
