Xperia Play is the first PlayStation certified phone, which means it will have access to the PlayStation game content provided through the PlayStation Suite initiative.

The handset features a 4-inch multi-touch screen, 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and embedded Adreno GPU graphics processor, which the company says delivers 60fps play-back for 3D mobile gaming and web browsing.

It comes with a slide-out game pad with a digital D pad, two analogue touch pads, two shoulder buttons and action buttons.

Sony Ericsson said it has partnered with publishers in the gaming industry to deliver new game titles available via the Android marketplace including Electronic Arts, GLU Mobile/Activision and Unity Technologies among others.

Xperia Play sports a 5 megapixel camera and is available in black and white shades. It would be introduced in both GSM and CDMA versions and is expected to be launched in select markets March onwards.

''Living up to our vision of communication entertainment, Xperia Play will forever change the way people think about smartphones and mobile gaming,'' said Rikko Sakaguchi, executive vice president and chief creation officer at Sony Ericsson.

The other two handsets, Xperia Neo and Pro feature a 3.7 inch screen with Mobile Bravia engine for reality display, 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor, ExmorR mobile sensor, HDMI port, and offer microSD card support up to 32GB.

Steve Walker, head of marketing, Sony Ericsson, said, ''We want to be a leader in Android and with Xperia Neo and Xperia Pro, we are now are offering excellent, innovative Android choices for consumers.''

Xperia Pro comes with a sliding Qwerty keypad, and is available in black, red and silver shades. It is expected to be launched in select markets at the end of Q1. Xperia Neo on the other hand will be available from end Q2 and will sport the blue gradient, red and silver shades.
