Reckitt Benckiser sets up first solar-powered factory in India

Consumer health and hygiene products maker RB (formerly Reckitt Benckiser), today said it had commission its first solar-powered factory in India, in Mysore.

The factory currently meets 75 per cent of its energy needs from solar energy and aims to be the first factory running on 100 per cent green power in India. 
This marks RB’s first power purchase agreement (PPA) in India, which forms a landmark in its sustainability iniative, which will enable reductions in carbon emissions by 80 per cent for the Mysore factory over the next 10 years. 
The factory is part of the company's Project Greenathon, and is an extension to RB’s efforts to reach its worldwide sustainability targets.  
In early 2016, opted for solar  power as a suitable renewable energy option. It signed a 10-year, 2.4 MW, power purchase agreement  with Amplus Energy solutions. Amplus has developed a 42 MW solar park in Chitradurga, Karnataka, from where it supplies solar power to the Mysore plant. 
Acording RB's procurement director Radha Mohan Gupta, the company is working towards making the plant run fully on renewable electricity.
