Oracle Corp, among the top three software companies of the world, announced the immediate availability of new XML (Extensible markup language) components, at the iDevelop 99 conference. Oracle Corp.is the only vendor to offer XML interfaces to all major development languages like Java, C, C++ and PL/SQL.

XML components improve productivity for Internet developers and can act as a bridge to access legacy information and transport it between business applications. XML interfaces to programming languages ease the transition to the new world of e-business. Existing business applications can now be enhanced to take advantage of XML without having to be completely rewritten. XML is emerging as the de-facto standard for describing data and is marked by  its simplicity and broad industry application.

The components include  Oracle XML Parser for C and Oracle XML Parser for C++ which complement Oracle's existing parsers for Java and PL/SQL. Others include Oracle XML SQL Utilities and XSQL Servlet( which facilitate the reading and writing of XML information to and from Oracle databases) and version 2.0 of the Oracle XML Parser for Java. The last mentioned one gives developers the ability to transform one XML document into another and to convert XML to other formats like HTML, or to extract data and save it into the Oracle8i database in a single process. All these components can be deployed directly inside Oracle8i, which was the first XML enabled database, or hosted on the Oracle Application Server.

Oracle works with the Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C) to define open XML standards and is also a member in the XMG.org consortium, a group of technology industry leaders working to define common XML tags.

These XML components are available for free download from Oracle technology network at http://technet.oracle.com.
