Microsoft Corp today launched `Windows 7' in a bid to win back PC software customers hurt by its disappointing Vista release around three years ago.

"Windows 7 is designed to respond to your commands more quickly by using memory more efficiently," said a Microsoft release.

Windows 7 would help laptop PCs work longer between charges allowing users to get more out of them. The new software is also more nimble and always ready, Microsoft said.

Key performance improvements include:

Sleep: Windows 7 is designed to sleep, resume, and reconnect to wireless networks more quickly.

Search: When hunting for something, Windows 7 would help users get answers fast. In Windows 7, search results pop up faster. Sorting and grouping of search results is also significantly quicker.
