Maruti seen recalling nearly one lakh Dzire cars

09 Apr 2014

Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, is likely to recall about one lakh units of its compact sedan Dzire to replace a faulty fuel tank part, industry sources said on Tuesday.

Maruti Suzuki, however, refused to comment, neither confirming nor denying the development.

Sources said the company has already started replacement of the faulty fuel neck filler, which is connected to the fuel tank, in unsold units at dealerships.

Sources, however, did not ascertained the year in which those cars were manufactured. Maruti sold around 1,97,685 units of Dzire in 2013-14 fiscal and at least one lakh units of Dzire could be affected by the faulty part, the say.

The company sold 17,237 units of the car in the domestic market in March.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) had regularly informed its customers about any recall of cars in the past.

Last year, the company had recalled 1,492 units of Ertiga, Swift, Dzire and A-Star models produced in October 2013 to rectify a possible problem with steering column.

In February 2010 the company had recalled about one lakh units of its flagship export model 'A-Star' to replace a faulty fuel pump part.

Automobile companies have been proactively recalling vehicles in case of safety issues since industry body SIAM initiated a voluntary recall policy in 2012.

It is not known whether the replacement initiated by Maruti Suzuki would result in a recall.
