Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) Ltd, Anand - the federation that markets the Amul and Sagar brands - conducted its 28th Hoshin Kanri meeting from 7-9 October 2010, in the presence of founding chairman Verghese Kurien, considered the pioneer of the 'white revolution'.

Kurien interacted with the participants and praised them for their relentless effort in taking GCMMF ahead. He said the federation has been constantly working for the betterment of milk producers and providing value for money to its consumers. He mentioned that the growth in an organisation or economy should always be inclusive, taking care of the under privileged. He also expressed his pleasure over the way India as a country is growing with a humane face.

GCMMF conducts the hoshin kanri meeting twice every year as an exercise that helps all its stakeholders to align individual goals to the organisation's goal. Hoshin kanri is a method for strategic direction setting and policy deployment that originated in Japan. GCMMF is unique amongst the Indian companies in implementing it.

It is a systems approach to management of change in critical business processes based on Large Scale Interactive Process (LSIP). The meetings are conducted to continuously improve the processes that serve the core objectives of the business.

During the meeting, managing director in charge R S Sodhi set the direction, and then the participants were broken up into 'max-mix' teams to work on the agenda, which included a review of the dairy product market scenario, brainstorming about key thrust areas, and reviewing goals for the current year.

There were more than 150 participants that included division heads, zone heads, depot in-charges, brand managers, suppliers, advertising agencies and other stakeholders.

The meeting was also attended by the chairman of GCMMF Ltd, Parthibhai Bhatol, who appreciated the efforts of the participants for taking GCMMF growth to 24 per cent in the second quarter with cumulative turnover of Rs4650 crore (a growth of 17 per cent) so far, and motivated them to cross Rs10,000 crore turnover in this fiscal year.
