Mumbai: The Credit Rating Information Services India Ltd (Crisil), leading credit rating agency in India, has launched Cris Finalyssis and Crisils Data Slicing System, two unique products for the financial sector. Securities and Exchange Board of India chairman G N Bajpai inaugurated the products.

Cris Finalyssis is a complete analysis of audited accounts of companies, along with a commentary on the salient feature of the accounts. The focus of the analysis is on recasting accounts that reflect a truer picture of the financial health of companies.

Cris Finalyssis of more than 500 listed companies are already available and others can be produced on order. The services are provided through Crisils wholly owned subsidiary, Global Data Services of India Ltd, which has been set up as a fully-equipped operation in Pune, dedicated to analysis of published accounts of companies. The analysis can be used by all those who need to track financials of companies, such as banks, mutual funds, investors, stockbrokers, etc.

Says Crisil managing director Ravi Mohan: "Unlike other products, Cris Finalyssis is not just a data product, but an analytical product, developed for and tested by Crisils demanding rating analyst. Cris Finalyssis is sure to enhance the markets insights on various companies financials."

A study conducted by Global Data Services shows that of the 639 companies covered, 139 companies overstated their profits, while 87 companies understated profits for the year 2000-2001. The degree of overstating was widest at well over 1,000 per cent from the Crisil norm and the degree of understatement was widest at almost 100 per cent from the norm.

While most deviation may technically be legal in terms of an interpretation of various accounting standards, the deviations have been estimated by Global Data Services in an analytical paradigm. Cris Finalyssis provides a golden standard of accounts for the entire analytical community.

Says Global Data Services CEO Madhu Dubhashi: "We see a definite need for such a product in todays context, when the world is focussing on the need for better quality of financial reporting."

Cris Finalyssis can be purchased for a single company or for a number of companies, either as a hard or soft copy or on a powerful and robust software, Crisils Data Slicing System, created and developed by Global Data Services. The software has a number of useful features that enable comparative and aggregate analysis.

Users can create new ratios and key in their own formulae for share valuation and get near instantaneous results. The software is also useful as a centralised monitoring tool for top management of banks, mutual funds, large investors and others who need to track their portfolios.

Reporting formats can be customised to suit individual customer needs, and updations can be replicated at multiple locations with ease. The software can also be purchased without the analysis if users prefer to key in their own analysis.
