Audi to launch 10 new models in 2015

German auto maker Audi AG plans to intensify efforts to retain its leadership position in the Indian luxury-car market with the introduction of 10 new models in 2015.

The company's fully-owned unit, Audi India, was expects to post another year of double-digit growth in 2014, with sales of over 10,000 cars by the end of November. The company sold 10,003 units in 2013.

Audi India head Joe King told The Economic Times on the sidelines of an event where the company launched the new cabriolet version of the A3, Audi had the best year in terms of sales in 2014 and it had already surpassed last year's total volumes.

He added, the company was in the process of repeating last year's feat of double-digit growth this year too even in a flat market, and would further enhance its market share in the luxury segment.

He added the company's "special emphasis" was on the compact luxury segment, which was the fastest growing in the luxury-car space. The A3 Cabriolet is priced at Rs 44.75 lakh before insurance and local levies in Delhi. The four seater comes with a retractable soft top, 1.8-litre petrol engine and is capable of attaining a a top speed of 242 km per hour.

The car can go from 0-100kmph in 7.8 seconds. This was the second A3 model launched by the company in the series after its A3 sedan in August this year.

In an interview with Business Line King said the Cabriolet would be perfect for the young and ambitious generation which enjoys luxury cars.

It was priced right and came with new technologies, he said, adding, the company had had similar experience with the A6, A4 and the A3 sedans.

King said since its launch in August, the A3 sedan had sold over 1,000 units. He added, Audi had a lot more production lined up for next year. He said there was a waiting period for some models, which should come down soon.
