Paramount Airways to expand operations in the south

Chennai: Chennai-based Paramount Airways will expand operations to the western region of India by the end of next year in its attempt to establish a ''national presence.'' The airline also intends to start international operations by 2011, managing director M. Thiagarajan said here on Tuesday.
The airline, which now commands a 26 per cent market share in the southern region, has already undergone a business consolidation exercise in the south of the country and now intends to further expand operations in the region.
It says that it will launch a direct service from Chennai to Visakhapatnam and begin flights to Tiruchirapalli in January. It also plans to increase the frequency of flights to Bangalore and Hyderabad by next March in synch with the inauguration of new airports in the city.
According to Thiagarajan, the airline will affect a ''staggered'' expansion of its fleet starting next year, by adding a total of 40 aircraft over the next four years. He also said that the carrier is ''evaluating'' the purchase of Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 'Dreamliners' for its planned international operations.
The airline currently operates five Embraer jets.
