Hyderabad: Aircraft engine manufacturer, CFM International (CFM) will establish a new CFM56 maintenance training centre at the GMR Aerospace Park to support its customers in the Indian sub-continent region. It is expected to commence operations by late January 2010.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) will build the facility and lease it to CFM.

CFM International is a 50:50 joint company between Snecma (SAFRAN Group) and General Electric Company, USA.

The CFM International's CFM56 series (US military designation F-108) are a family of high-bypass turbofan engines, which are also one of the most prolific engine types in the world.

Its long history starts with the Boeing 737-300. The 737 family has solely relied on the CFM56 for more than 25 years, and the engine still powers the newest variants - the 737-900ER and 737-700ER.

The engine is also an option on Airbus A320 family and it is also the sole power plant of the A340-200 & -300.
