The deal is part of a modernisation project to prepare the airport for the October Commonwealth Games in 2010.

ABB will provide the electrical infrastructure and controlling systems for the new terminal, which is currently under construction.

The company said that the technology installed at the new terminal will be designed to maximise energy efficiency and minimise environmental impact.

The new terminal covers an area of 520,000sqm and will have the capacity to handle 25 million passengers a year.

The terminal is scheduled to become operational by March 2010.
