Chandigarh: The Union territory of Chandigarh will probably flag off its first international flight in August if the current pace of work is maintained, according to airport officials.

Very likely, the airport will initiate international operations with flights for Bangkok, Singapore and other South-east Asian destinations. This will be determined by the fact that the two main international airlines expected to begin operations from the city will be Silk Air, a Singapore Airlines-owned regional carrier and Kingfisher Airlines, which is eyeing destinations in the region.

Airport authorities said that the immigration office had already conducted a survey of the airport and committed to opening up their office at an appropriate time. They also said that work at the airport was taking place in a phased manner, and if all went well then the first flight for international destinations should take off some time in August.
