National carrier Air India has joined the air fare war with a bang, offering tickets priced as low as Rs100.

The offer window opens today under the guise of 'Air India Day' to celebrate the merger of the erstwhile Indian Airlines with Air India, which happened on 27 August 2007.

The sale of these tickets under the state-owned carrier's 'Air India Offer' would be made only through the airline's website for five days starting today. The period of travel is between 27 August and 30 September.

"This is the first time the airline will be celebrating the 'Air India Day'. A function will be held to celebrate the day and also to award meritorious employees of the airline," an official spokesperson said on Tuesday.
