SIA to reduces services to Asian cities, including Indian destinations

Singapore Airlines (SIA) today announced withdrawal of its services to the pilgrimage city of Amritsar from 4 February 2009 and reduction in its frequencies to the southern Indian metros of Chennai and Bangalore during the ongoing winter schedule as part of its cost cutting measures.
The winter schedule came into effect three days ago.
Customers booked on flights to and from Amritsar would be accommodated on SIA flights to and from Delhi, an airline spokesperson said here. Three of the 10 weekly flights to Bangalore and four of the 11 weekly services to Chennai will now be withdrawn.
Both the cities would, however, continue to be served by daily flights, the spokesperson said.
Other Asian cities to experience a reduction in SIA services will include Penang, Ho Chi Minh City, Seoul and Osaka.
"Other changes will be made on an ad-hoc basis where demand requires," an airline statement said, adding capacity adjustments will be made quickly where demand falls.
According to SIA, flight reductions were part of the "adjustments" being carried out by the airline throughout its global network and passengers would be re-booked on alternative flights wherever changes are made.
