Mumbai: British Airways will launch a direct London-Hyderabad service in December this year, a top airline official said. The service will launch on 7 December.

Officials said that a Boeing 777 aircraft will be deployed for the proposed new service which will operate five times a week.  The UK flag carrier currently operates 43 flights a week from India.

India is the second largest market outside the US in terms of volume.

BA officials said that the airline had recently signed an agreement with the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) for setting up a lounge for its passengers at the Mumbai airport.

From 17 September all flights arriving from Mumbai will land at the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow airport.
