The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has honoured Jet Airways at its annual awards for growth of its passenger and cargo carriage through Changi Airport.

The third annual Changi Airline Awards, held in Singapore on 12 June 2008, recognised airlines that achieved the highest year-on-year growth in passengers and cargo, as well as airlines that have carried the most passengers and cargo through Singapore's Changi Airport.

Jet Airways received awards for being one of the 'Top 5 Airlines by Growth in Passenger Carriage' and one of 'Top 5 Airlines by Growth in Cargo Carriage.'

The awards were contested by the 78 airlines that operate 4,400 weekly scheduled flights at Changi Airport.

Jet Airways regional vice president for Southeast Asia, Gerry Oh, said that the airline is a first time winner in both categories. ''We are delighted to be recognised and acknowledged by the awards,'' Oh said.

''Jet Airways has only been operating in Singapore for three years, and we couldn't have achieved so much so fast without the assistance and support from our customers, trade partners and in particular, CAAS.'' Oh said that Jet Airways recently moved its Singapore operations to Terminal 3, reflecting the importance of Singapore in the airline's on-going international expansion.

Commenting on the honour, Mr. Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, Chief Executive Officer, Jet Airways, said, ''Singapore serves as an important gateway for Jet Airways to India and other destinations across Asia. We are looking forward to building on the growth that we have enjoyed to date.''

For the first five months of 2008, over 15,500,000 passengers and airfreight in excess of 784,000 tonnes have passed through Changi Airport.
