Consumer goods giant Unilever said today its senior executive and former head of its India unit, Vindi Banga, was leaving the company in May after 33 years of service.

Michael B Polk, who is currently president, Americas, will replace Banga as president for global foods, home and personal care business, the company said in a statement.

Dave Lewis, executive vice president of Unilever UK and Ireland, will succeed Polk.

Banga, who was appointed chairman and managing director of Unilever's India unit in 2000, joined the Unilever executive board in 2005.

He led the creation of a `One Unilever globalfoods, home and personal care global category' organisation, which is now responsible for innovation and marketing mix development for all Unilever brands.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of my time at Unilever, especially the last few years during which we have transformed the company. Our global category organisation is a real powerhouse that combines global brand and technology scale with local knowledge and execution," Banga said.
