Ahluwalia reappointed deputy chairman of planning commission

Montek Singh Ahluwalia has been reappointed deputy chairman of the planning commission, an official in the Prime Minister's office said on Friday.

Prime minister Manmohan Singh on Friday approved the reconstitution of the planning commission of which he is the chairman.

Abhijit Sen and Syeda Hameed have also been reappointed to the planning commission even as Saumitra Chaudhuri, a member of the PM's economic advisory council, has been inducted as a new member.

Members of the reconstituted Planning Commission are:

Chairman – Manmoman Singh
Dy Chairman – Montek Singh Ahluwalia
Member - Saumitra Chaudhuri
Member -  Abhijit Sen
Member - Syeda Hameed
Member - Mihir Shah
Member - Narendra Jadhav
Member - B.K. Chaturvedi

The prime minister has asked the finance ministry to ensure that the next union budget adequately and appropriately reflects the priorities and programmes outlined in the government as enunciated in the President's address to the joint session of Parliament.
