US Federal Aviation Administration names United Airlines'' Krakowski as new COO

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has named Henry ''Hank'' Krakowski, presently vice president of flight operations at United Airlines, to serve as its chief operating officer (COO).
The widely respected Krakowski''s name was on the short list to fill the currently vacant COO spot at the Washington-based agency. The FAA''s COO is responsible for overseeing its air-traffic control organisation, among other duties.
Krakowski, a Boeing 737 captain and a former official with the pilots union, has been with United Airlines since 1978. In August 2006, he was appointed as the airline''s vice president in charge of flight operations.
UAL Corporation, the holding company for United Airlines, has applauded Krakowski''s appointment as the FAA''s new COO.
The
company said his contributions to safety across the industry had set him apart
as a leader in aviation. Sean Donohue, senior vice president of flight operations
and onboard service, takes over Krakowski''s job until a replacement is found.
