Mumbai: Areva Transmission and Distribution (T&D) India has successfully type-tested its first 1,200 KV capacitor voltage transformer unit in the country, based on its global design for ultra high voltage (UHV) solutions, the company said in release.
This unit would be installed in the PGCIL sub-station at Bina in Madhya Pradesh slated for commissioning by 2009, Areva said in a press release.
Areva T&D claims to be the first to conform with the next level of power transmission voltage at 1,200 KV in the country to meet the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd's (PGCIL) requirements for the national grid by 2012.
''We constantly endeavour to set new benchmarks and this is yet another milestone which continues our tradition of offering the Indian power sector UHV solutions much before they become common know-how in the country," Areva T&D India's country president and managing director Rathin Basu said.
Areva India, meanwhile, plans to increase the number of domain experts at its global R&D centre for instrument transformers at Bangalore.
Set up in 2006, the Bangalore center is playing an integral part in supporting the company's technology and innovation in the field of instrument transformers, the release added.
