The Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) has extended the date of implementation of compulsory registration for units producing electronic goods for a period of three months beyond 3 April 2013.

Accordingly, the 'Electronics and IT Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012', will come into effect on 3 July 2013.

Units, which do not comply with the order by 3 July 2013 can seek a further extension for three months after paying a fee.

Manufacturing units that submit the products to the BIS recognised labs before 3 July 2013, but fail to provide test reports, would have to pay a fee on a per month basis at the specified rates, till they submit request for registration to BIS with complete test reports.

Units that fail to submit the products to BIS-recognised labs before 3 July 2013, will be levied a monthly fee three times the rates specified, till they submit their samples for testing and after that a monthly fee at prescribed rates till they submit request for registration to BIS with complete test reports.

In any case, no extension will be granted to units beyond 3 October 2013, the release added.
