DRDO spending on fundamental research at minimal levels
16 Mar 2007
New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the country's omnibus defence research establishment, has spent about 8-10 per cent of its annual budget on fundamental research during the last three years. This information was given by the defence minister AK Antony in a written reply to Naveen Jindal in the Lok Sabha.
The minister mentioned that the country's defence expenditure on imports had come down as a result of DRDO's projects. According to Antony, the cumulative value of the DRDO developed products amounted to about Rs30,000 crore so far. This amount has contributed sizably towards the reduction in defence expenditure on import, the minister said.
