Boeing bags 27-aircraft order from UPS
06 Feb 2007
UPS however says its order for Boeing aircraft was unrelated to its ongoing review of the order for 10 Airbus A380 freighters. Boeing’s European rival has been hit by cancellations and threats of cancellations over deliveries being rescheduled due to delayed production of the first A380 passenger jets, while the cargo version not being expected till 2010.
Analysts say the cargo version of the A380 would be unviable for Airbus should UPS cancel its order. Last year Fedex had cancelled an order for the Airbus A380 planes.
UPS, however, has not disclosed the contract value for the wide-body 767-300ER jets.
On the basis of the list price, the order could be as high as $4 billion (Rs17,728 crore), though carriers get undisclosed attractive discounts for large orders.
