The centre is contemplating amendments in the license conditions for telecom service providers (TSPs) and plans to issue fresh instructions to enable service providers address security threats in their networks.

According to the department of telecommunications,  the consultation with stake holders including the service providers will be initiated within a week to evolve workable solutions.

"The government has been working on security concerns in the Telecom Sector to address the security threats / vulnerabilities of Telecom Networks," the telecom ministry said in a circular.

"It considers that TSPs should have well outlined organisational policy on security and security management of their networks and they should be completely and totally responsible for security of their networks," the circular added.

The government has taken cognisance of home ministry concerns, which are similar to those of the governments of the US, UK and Australia on potential security threats , of allowing network equipment to be installed  by Chinese firms.
