The Special Purpose Vehicle created for setting up Common Service Centres (CSCs) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the ministry of agriculture and farmer's welfare for converting 10,000 registered Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) into CSCs.

Conversion into CSCs will enable FPOs provide the services that are available on the Digital Seva Portal. CSE SPV will provide training to FPO personnel for capacity building.

A central sector scheme launched by the Government of India in the year 2000, Farmer Producer Organisations was intended to empower farmers by leveraging economies of scale, reducing cost of production and enhancing incomes through pooling of agricultural produce and thereby enhancing their bargaining power.

There is already a vast network of CSCs across the country, including  remote areas, providing various services to the farmers through tele-consultation, crop insurance, e-veterinary, Kisan Credit Card and PM Kisan schemes.

With the transformative initiative, CSC services can be delivered through FPOs, which will increase employment opportunities in rural areas. There will now be 10,000 more CSCs providing services to the common man across the country

This initiative will help FPOs to become a nodal center for providing various services like Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS), Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY) and fertilizer and seed inputs.
