The Supreme Court today stayed the release on bail of Pune-based stud farm owner and money laundering accused Hasan Ali Khan. The bail was granted last week by Bombay High Court.

A three-judge bench headed by justice Altamas Kabir said the effect of the Bombay High Court's order granting bail to the accused would not be operational till Thursday.

The court order came on a petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) challenging the high court's grant of bail to Khan, who is facing charges of money laundering in various cases.

''Let the matter be listed on Thursday. In the meantime, order of Bombay High Court of August 12 on bail shall not be given effect to,'' the bench said.

According to the ED, the documents revealed that Hasan had deposited $800 million with a bank outside India.

The agency's petition alleged that various transactions by Khan through his accounts in foreign banks pointed to his association with notorious international arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi.
