November consumer price inflation for industrial workers slightly down at 9.34 per cent

Consumer price inflation based on all-India consumer price index for industrial workers in the country was marginally lower at 9.34 per cent in November, against 9.39 per cent in October. Inflation based on the food index stood at 7.61 per cent in November against 8.72 per cent in October.
The all-India consumer price index for industrial workers (CPI-IW) having its base 2001=100 increased by 1 point and stood at 199 in November 2011.
During November 2011, the index recorded maximum increase of 12 points in Mysore center while it rose 5 points each in Madurai and Puducherry centers and by 4 points in Coimbatore center. The index was up 3 points in 2 centres, 2 points in 14 centres, and 1 point in 11 centres.
The index decreased by 5 points in Lucknow center and by 4 points in Faridabad center while it declined 3 points in 4 centres, 2 points in 10 centres and 1 point in 15 centres.
The index remained unchanged in the remaining 16 centres.
The maximum increase of 12 points in Mysore centre was mainly on account of increase in the prices of rice, wheat, arhar dal, groundnut oil, garlic, vegetable items, clothing, flower/flower garlands, etc. The increase of 5 points in Madurai centres was mainly due to increase in the prices of mutton, poultry (chicken), fish, eggs, tamarind, vegetable and fruits, coffee powder, flower/flower garlands, washing soap, washing charges, etc. In the Puducherry centre the increase of 5 points was due to increase in the prices of rice, mutton, fish, vegetables, tea, firewood etc. The increase of 4 points in Coimbatore centre was due to increase in the prices of mutton, eggs, onion, vegetables, bidi, cigarette, medicine, hair oil, cinema charges etc.
The decrease of 5 points in Lucknow centre was mainly due to decrease in the prices of vegetable items, primary school fee and primary school books, etc. The decrease of 4 points in Faridabad centre is due to decrease in the prices of wheat atta, pure ghee, garlic, ginger, vegetable and fruits, electricity charges, etc.
The indices for the six major centres are: Ahmedabad 192, Bangalore 200, Chennai 180, Delhi 182, Kolkata 189 and Mumbai 201.
