Mumbai Congress ex-chief raided after SC rejects plea

Properties of former Mumbai Congress Chief Kripashankar Singh have been attached after the Economics Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police carried out raids at his Bandra residence today morning.
The Bombay High Court had last week directed the police to file a first information report against Singh and members of his family for "criminal misconduct" under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Following this, a special investigation team appointed by Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik on the orders of the high court on Tuesday filed an FIR at Nirmal Nagar police station in Bandra against Singh, his wife Malti Devi, son Narendra Mohan Singh, daughter Sunita Singh, son-in-law Vijay Singh and daughter-in-law Ankita Singh.
They have been booked under Indian Police Code IPC Sections 409, 471, 420, 467, 468 and 201 for criminal breach of trust by a public servant, forgery, cheating and destruction of evidence. The Prevention of Corruption Act has also been invoked in the case.
The high court has also asked the police commissioner to collect documentary evidence regarding all movable and immovable properties of Singh and his family. Singh is accused of amassing disproportionate assets worth over Rs300 crore.
Singh had appealed the high court order in the Supreme Court, but the apex court today refused to hear his plea against being prosecuted.
