India's consumer price inflation rises to 10.36 per cent

Consumer price inflation in the country based on the consumer price index (CPI) for all groups edged up to 10.36 per cent in May on the back of rising prices of vegetables, edible oils and milk.

This is 10 basis points higher than the revised estimates of consumer price inflation of 10.26 for April 2012 - provisional estimate released earlier had put it at 10.32 per cent, the Central Statistical Office said in a release.

During May 2012, vegetables prices recorded the maximum increase of 26.59 per cent, followed by edible oils (18.21 per cent) and milk products (13.74 per cent).

Prices of egg, fish and meat shot up 10.5 per cent, while non-alcoholic beverages became costlier by 9.44 per cent.

Among other items, prices of cereals and its products rose 4.79 per cent year-on-year.

Sugar prices rose 5.38 per cent in May while 'pulses and products' were up 7.89 per cent compared to the levels in the same month last year.
