Air India has introduced in-flight WiFi services on domestic routes, becoming the first airline in India to provide on-board Wi-Fi connectivity to passengers.

This, the airline said, is part of its efforts to enhance customer experience and align aviation industry with the digital economy.

Air India is offering the Wi-Fi facility to all passengers on domestic flights operated by Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and select Airbus A321neo aircraft. The service is available from 1 January 2025, and at no additional cost during the introductory period, the airline stated in a release.

The Wi-Fi facility will provide seamless connectivity, allowing passengers stay connected with family and friends or workplace during their flights.

The Wi-Fi service can be availed using any Wi-Fi-enabled devices like laptops, tablets, smartphones operating on iOS or Android systems. Once the aircraft reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet, passengers can also use multiple devices simultaneously.

Air India already provides Wi-Fi connectivity on its Airbus A350, select Airbus A321neo, and Boeing B787-9 aircraft on flights to New York, London, Paris, and Singapore.

Air India said the facility will be extended to more aircraft in future, to cover its entire network.

Passengers can access Wi-Fi on board Air India domestic flights by enabling Wi-Fi and selecting `Air India Wi-Fi’ network on Wi-Fi settings. They will then be redirected to the airline’s portal where they will have to enter their PNR number and last name to get connected to the internet, the release said.

In-flight Wi-Fi connection is subject to satellite connectivity, combined bandwidth usage, routes, and government restrictions, the release added.
