‘Live’ grenade removed from Colombian soldier’s face

In an astonishing incident, a 'live' grenade got lodged in a Colombian soldier's face after a military accident.
The grenade was successfully removed from the soldier, named as Luis Eduardo Perez Arango, in a car park outside the Central Military Hospital in Bogota, CEN reports.
It was pulled out by brave medics who feared it could explode during surgery and possibly injure other patients.
Chief of surgery, William Sanchez, said, ''It was a decisive moment, logically one of stress and uncertainty, but there was no other option than to push on to save the life of the patient, even praying and asking God not to let a bigger tragedy happen.''
He added, ''We now have an established protocol. We logically did it outside the hospital, because if it were to activate it, it needed to be somewhere it would have the least impact.''
The soldier is now reportedly out of danger and recovering in hospital.

Dr Ghofran Ageely had scanned the 16-month-old hospital patient's chest to find out what foreign object he had swallowed.
She had initially suspected the child had stuffed a pin or hair accessory in his mouth, but soon found out what had really happened.
Meanwhile, a plastic surgeon has given a severely disfigured former volunteer firefighter a 'new life' after performing the 'most extensive face transplant in history'.
Patrick Hardison's face was badly burned in 2001 when the roof of a burning building he had entered to search for a 'missing' woman collapsed. The woman they had been looking for had actually been fishing nearby.
