Carrefour to enter India soon

French supermarket giant Carrefour will sign a deal to enter India in the next two weeks, reports CNBC-TV18.

Addressing a conference in London, commerce and industry minister Kamal Nath said that Carrefour was in talks with the Wadia group and Britannia, the country's top biscuit maker and part-owned by French food giant Danone.

The deal would give Carrefour a foothold in India after Wal-Mart secured a retail venture with Bharti late last year. A Carrefour spokeswoman said the group was not immediately available for comment. Wadia's group spokesman declined to comment as well.

Global retailers WalMart, Carrefour, Britain's Tesco and Germany's Metro have moved swiftly to enter the booming Indian market as they face the prospect of slowing consumption at home.
