NASSCOM identifies 50 cities for IT, ITes development

National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) has identified 50 cities in the country for IT and IT sector development. The association has classified these according to the potential they hold out for growth as – leaders, followers and aspirants.
According to the association vice president Rajiv Vaishnav of the 50 cities, seven fall in the 'leader' category and were expected to grow 250 per cent by 2018. Vaishnav was addressing a seminar on ''Emerging IT-BPO Destination: Coimbatore'' in the city on Monday.
During the discussions in the seminar, NASSCOM was asked by two city based universities to partner with them in setting up finishing schools and also to come out with a syllabus for soft skills development.
Vice chancellor of Bharathiar University, Prof G Thiruvasagam appealed to NASSCOM to set up a school for IT and ITes in the university campus which would cater to the needs of the students and industries in the region.
He added that at least six months' training needed to be imparted to outgoing students to enable them develop skills required by industries.
Anna University vice chancellor, R Radhakrishna requested the association to develop a syllabus for soft skills which would also help in training students opting for internships and projects.
