Under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract, L&T’s minerals and metals division will undertake construction work related to modernisation and expansion of IISCO’s existing plant at Burnpur, West Bengal.
SAIL plans to increase crude steel production at Burnpur from 2.5 million tonnes per annum to 6.5 million tonnes per annum.
L&T has been entrusted with the work of complete engineering, procurement and installation of critical process plants, including the coke oven battery, facility for production of by-products, oxygen furnace and material handling equipment.
L&T is also undertaking work related to upstream expansion at SAIL’s Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) in Jharkhand, where L&T has been awarded the contract for setting up a second Sinter Plant.
L&T has been in a win-win partnership with SAIL for the execution of several steel projects in the country. This partnership has played a major role in expanding and upgrading India’s steel manufacturing ecosystem. In the process L&T has reinforced its presence in the steel and metallurgy sector.
Besides the SAIL order, L&T has secured several orders for specialised material handling equipment, including stacker reclaimers and wagon tipplers, from clients across India.
