DCW Ltd has entered into a technical license and support agreement with Rockwood Italia (Italy), a leading producer of synthetic iron oxides.

DCW intends to incorporate Rockwood's licensed technology for setting up a 31,000 tonne per annum state-of-the-art synthetic iron oxide plant at its Sahupuram complex, in Tamil Nadu. The new technology will use the waste leach liquor generated from its beneficiated limonite plant as feedstock.

The plant, which is expected to be commissioned in about two years' time, will be the only one of its kind in the Indian sub-continent and will be eco-friendly with zero discharge, the company said in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Synthetic iron oxide pigments are used in the construction and coating and paint industry.

Rockwood has also entered into an agreement with DCW to buy up to 50 per cent of the output from the proposed plant.

"This project is in continuation of DCW's ongoing mission to produce wealth from waste," the company said in its filing.
