The Supreme Court is expected to hear today a petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party against the imposition of President's Rule in Delhi.

The hearing comes a day after all 27 MLAs in the Delhi assembly, led by their convenor Arvind Kejriwal, met President Pranab Mukherjee to demand the immediate dissolution of the assembly and fresh elections rather than an extension of president's rule in Delhi.

The apex court had on 5 May posted the hearing of the petition for 4 July after it was told that Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung had decided to deal with the issue after the conclusion of Lok Sabha polls.

The SC had earlier said that there was no legal impediment for the President to dissolve the Delhi Assembly to pave the way for fresh election in the state.

The bench, however, had clarified that it was not passing any direction in any manner in this regard and it was for the President to decide on the basis of the facts and circumstances.

Delhi has been under President's Rule since 17 February after Kejriwal resigned within two weeks of becoming chief minister amid high street drama that fetched him more critics than new adherents.
