Tata Power Co, the electricity generation arm of the Tata Group, said today it would double its solar power capacity this year to about 60 MW after completing its biggest project to date.

The company expects to finish a 28.8 MW photovoltaic plant in Satara, Maharashtra by December. This will help it comply with government-mandated renewable energy targets, it said in a statement on its website.

Tata Power plans to add 50 MW of solar capacity every year, according to the statement. It has 30 MW in operation, including a 25 MW plant in Mithapur, in Gujarat state.
