Tata Motors October sales jump 34.42 per cent

Tata Motors, the country's largest auto maker posted a strong 34.42 per cent jump in its total sales during October at 53,404 units.

The company's unit sales for the same month in 2008 stood at 39,729 units.

The firm's sales of passenger vehicles in the domestic market surged 17.61 per cent at 20,011 units last month as against 17,014 units in the same month last year, according to the company.

However, in October, its exports plunged by 19.91 per cent at 2,852 units compared with 3,561 units in the same month last year, the company said.

Its Indica range registered sales of 9,640 units up 2 per cent over October, 2008, the company added.

Seven months of decline in the sales of the Indigo family was reversed by the growth in sales at 4,899 units in October with the brand recording 6.1 per cent sales growth over the figures for the same month last year. According to the firm, the Indigo Mazda which was launched during the period contributed hugely to the rise.

''The company's domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for October 2009 were 50,552, a 40 percent growth over 36,168 sold in October last year,'' the statement said.
