Dell Inc's annual revenue in India is nearing $2 billion, and the world's second-largest maker of personal computers by sales plans to increase investment and add more staff in what is possibly the world's fastest growing economy, the company's chief executive said.

''If I look out to 2020, 2030, India is on a clear path to become the third largest economy in the world and our investment will scale very nicely in support of that,'' Dell told reporters at a conference in New Delhi on Tuesday.

''We have about 23,000 people here. We'll probably grow that by a few thousand, certainly, over the next year or so,'' he added. Dell didn't give a timeframe for the sales target.

"We are continuing to invest here and continuing to grow the business ... India for us is a critical part of our infrastructure globally," Dell said. The company has a manufacturing operation near Chennai.

''India for us is a critical part of our infrastructure globally with research and development, and IT services and sales and support, manufacturing, analytics,'' Dell said.

China and India will contribute an increased proportion of the company's sales, the company's 46-year-old founder had said in November.
