Mumbai: Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja Group flagship company, has launched Rubic, India's first twin bin two-way tipper at Build India 2003 in Mumbai. Incorporating a breakthrough concept in tipping mechanisms, Rubic significantly reduces the turnaround time of operation.

Unlike traditional tippers, Rubic has two bins - each of 7 cu m capacity - that tip sideways independently. This gives Rubic three distinct advantages:

  • Unloading can be done at two different points without retracing to the source, thereby saving one return trip
  • Two different materials can be carried to the unloading point
  • The two-way side tipping prevents the vehicle blocking the road; normally tippers are stationed perpendicular to the road while tipping, thus blocking traffic

“Together, these never-before combination of features in a tipper make Rubic a faster and economical option, ultimately resulting in higher productivity,“ says Ashok Leyland regional manager (west) RN Rao.

Built on a Taurus 2516 (6x4), Rubic is powered by a turbo-charged engine for better pick-up and speed. While the high torque (57 mkg) at low rpm (1500) gives more pulling power, the heavy duty Hypoid gear rear axle can handle heavy loads with ease. The tipping system is a Wipro-Trunion mounted three-stage telescopic cylinder with a tipping angle of 45 degrees.

The sturdy and sophisticated factory-built cabin provides spacious interiors for driver and crew. Special insulation reduces noise level and driver fatigue. Further, the six-speed Synchromesh gearbox facilitates effortless gear shifting.

Rao says evolving customer needs have shaped Vishvas, the annual maintenance contract launched recently by the company. It offers 'any time, any place service' backed by an all-India network.

“At a time when the end customers are increasingly seeking and demanding utmost reliability and cost-efficiencies in just in time (JIT) deliveries, the vehicle uptime that Vishvas offers becomes both crucial and relevant. Vishvas is aimed at making an impact on the economics of operations for fleet operators,“ he says.

A toll-free 24-hour helpline (1600 44 6789) at the customer assistance network (CAN) centre closely monitors and provides status information once a breakdown is intimated. Vishvas also covers all routine and recommended scheduled maintenance - oil changes for the engine, clutch, gearbox, rear axle and steering assembly; filter changes; replacement of normal wear and tear items like clutch disc and brake lining; hub greasing; replacement of rubber components and servicing of engine-related electrical systems.
