India gearing up to meet cyber war threats: DRDO chief

Evolving threats in cyberspace have pushed the Defence Research and Research Organisation to equip the country in the area of cyber warfare, according to the DRDO chief.
"We have evolved from border issues to economic issues to cyber warfare," V K Saraswat, who is also scientific adviser to the defence ministry, told reporters on the sidelines of the ongoing AeroIndia 2011 at the Air Force base near Bangalore.
But "old disputes continue to remain", he said. He said the DRDO would get robust technology and trusted platforms to make Indian networks ''invincible''.
"We have to be more and vigilant on cyber security," he added.
Speaking about the threats of space wars, he said India does not have a policy or intent in space war and anti-satellite activities; but as part of the ballistic missile defence programme, India has "all the technology elements required to integrate a system to defend our own satellites or any requirements in the future".
As a country, "we do not believe in space wars", he said in response to a query whether India had anti-satellite weapon capabilities.
