Tata Power Renewable commissions 100 MW solar plant in Andhra

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), the clean power arm of integrated power company Tata Power, on Monday announced the commissioning of its 100 MW (50 MW x 2) solar capacity in Anthapuramu Solar Park in Andhra Pradesh.
This takes the overall operating renewable power capacity of TPREL in India to 2,215 MW.
The 100 MW solar power plant, part of the government’s MNRE scheme, has its power sales tied up under a 25-year power purchase agreement with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The project has been built under the grid connected solar power capacity of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) Phase II, Batch-III with viability gap funding (VGF) from the government.

For a tropical country like India, solar energy has the highest potential. Tata Power is focused to constantly proliferate the group’s renewable energy portfolio and we plan to add around 1,000 MW renewable energy capacity to our portfolio every year, scaling it to 45-50 per cent in the next five years, largely through organic growth.” Praveer Sinha, CEO and managing director, Tata Power, said.

The company has organically added 159 MW wind and solar capacity in FY17 along with the acquisition of Welspun Renewables Energy Pvt Ltd last year.
TPREL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power, and is Tata Power's primary investment vehicle for clean and renewable energy based power generation capacity.
TPREL's present operating capacity is 2,215 MW comprising of 931 MW wind and 1,284 MW solar capacity located in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Rajasthan. The company is also in the process of implementing 121 MW of renewable power projects at various locations on Greenfield basis.
In order to aggregate its clean and renewable energy portfolio, Tata Power has initiated the process of carving out its 380 MW clean energy assets from its books into TPREL.
Last month, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) won a 150 MW Solar PV project on the long term basis in Maharashtra.
TPREL has received the Letter of Award to develop the project and will sign a 25 year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd (MSEDCL). PPA signed will be subject to the approval of the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) with applicable tariff, Tata power said.
