Honda expands recall due to defective Takata airbags
19 Jun 2015
Meanwhile, in a related development, American Honda Motor Co, the North American subsidiary Japan's Honda Motor, had expanded its recall of the Honda Accord and Honda Civic over potentially faulty airbags.
Part of the now-infamous Takata airbag fiasco that had hit many automakers, irrespective of brand or country of origin, the recall comes after a campaign over driver-side airbag inflators.
The affected vehicles have a passenger-side frontal air bag that might be susceptible to moisture intrusion and other factors, including variability in manufacture over time, which could cause the inflator to rupture.
This posed a hazard for passengers by way of rupture of inflator causing metal fragments to strike the passenger seat occupant or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death in the event of a crash.
In a recall, which affects 2,30,000 vehicles, Honda would notify owners, and dealers and replace the passenger air bag inflator, free of charge.
The recall would begin 13 July, 2015.
Customers who want to find out if their vehicle was included in this Honda recall should visit honda.com and click on "Recalls" at the bottom of the page.
Customers could then enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to check any open recalls and also customer satisfaction programmes. If the vehicle was part of the recall, customers would need to take it to a Honda or Acura dealer.
