Annual Software Coding Challenge for Students from Sierra Atlantic

Sierra Atlantic has announced the launch of its Programmers''
Marathon a software coding challenge for students
as part of its ongoing industry-academia initiative CampusDrive
Sierra Atlantic University Programme. The aim of the Sierra
Atlantic Programmers'' Marathon, slated as an annual event,
is to spot, promote and reward budding software professionals
among the student community by providing a competitive
platform to showcase their skills. The programme is conducted
in close coordination and involvement of the colleges.
Based on their performance in the pre qualifying rounds, 30 three-member teams will be selected from from among these students, to take part in the day long Sierra Atlantic Programmers'' Marathon on December 22nd. During the Marathon each team will be given a coding challenge and tested for their ability to deliver results at the end of the day.
Commenting on the initiative, Joga Ryali, chief technology officer, Sierra Atlantic said, "Students are interested in acquiring the knowledge and skills that will help them get the best paying jobs with great companies. Industry is interested in hiring students who can be quickly assimilated into real world software projects. For software professionals, designing, coding and testing programs to address specific business problems is the most fundamental skill. Sierra Atlantic Programmers'' Marathon is an innovative way to highlight the importance of these skills in a competitive, live environment."
A jury consisting of senior programme directors from Sierra Atlantic will judge the winning teams. The winners will be recognised and rewarded with cash prizes at a ceremony on December 23, 2004.
