Hawker Beechcraft reports profits, increased orders and sales for the second quarter
06 Aug 2008
Wichita-based Hawker Beechcraft has reported increased orders, better sales and higher earnings for the second quarter of the fiscal, as compared to the same period last year. It said net bookings for the quarter totaled $1.7 billion, creating a new record order backlog of $7.4 billion.
Second-quarter revenues were up by $327.6 million, year-over-year, to $1.02 billion, with an increase in aircraft deliveries.
Hawker Beechcraft delivered 50 jets, 50 turboprops as well as 29 piston aircraft in the second quarter.
It recorded a profit of $86.4 million for the quarter, as compared to an operating loss of $36.6 million for the same period last year.
The good operating result has, however, been overshadowed by the rejection of a new contract by the vast majority of the company's unionized aircraft assembly workers, with 89 per cent voting to strike work.
A Hawker Beechcraft spokesman said the company is ''open for business and is building airplanes,'' despite the strike.
