Delhi International Airport receives certification for secure IT services
22 Dec 2012
Delhi International Airport's (DIAL) IT system has received a certification against IT breaches and security in a reaffirmation of the organisation's compliance with its software license agreements.
According to the airport, it is the first airport in the world to secure the BSA (Business Software Alliance) Certification in Standards-based Software Asset Management (SAM) for organisations, a programme known as CSS(O).
For passengers this means their travel would become more secure through genuine software ensuring timely and accurate display of flight information, smooth baggage checking process, secured wi-fi usage inside the terminal, prevention of malware and pirated software.
DIAL employees and new recruits were assisted by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India and KPMG to understand their roles and responsibilities through the software asset management with the circulation of educational emails and posters.
I Prabhakara Rao, CEO, DIAL said, new software requests were now considered in terms of functionality, instead of product specifications, and licences were accordingly reused or purchased. The single practice had helped downsize yearly license costs by as much as 30 per cent.
With this, DIAL has been able to regularise the usage of licenses and cut costs by up to 20 per cent for all software licenses.
A SAM team had also been established for the management of efficient procurement of all software licenses, ensuring vendors could no longer short-change them on software prices.
DIAL had received the ISO 20000 certification for elimination and control of IT-related threats to its IT service management system, which has made it only the sixth airport in the world to receive this certification.
