The former president of Lee Dynamics International, a US-based defence contractor providing services to the US military in Iraq, yesterday pleaded guilty to bribery charges for trying to obtain government contracts in Iraq.

Justin Lee, the former chairman and chief executive officer of Virginia-based Lee Dynamics and his father, George Lee Jr, pleaded guilty before US District Judge in Pennsylvania to one count of conspiracy to commit bribery and four counts of bribery.

Four military contracting officials with whom Justin Lee conspired, have also pleaded guilty to the charges.

Justin Lee admitted that he conspired with his father and others to bribe military contracting officers in order to obtain government contracts to support US combat operations in Iraq.

According to court documents, Justin Lee provided cash, airline tickets, meals, hotel stays, spa visits and jobs, valued at more than $1.2 million, to public officials in return for obtaining lucrative Department of Defence contracts.

The contracts included multi-million dollar contracts for the storage of weapons at various warehouses in Iraq as well as bottled water.
